Bake a Difference 2019!

Christmassy coffee mornings, show-stopping bake sales and ‘flan-tastic’ festive fairs – a massive ‘crumbs-up’ to all of you who have ‘whisked’ into action and baked gingerbread for the Fairtrade Schools Bake a Difference Campaign!

From your spectacular and masterfully iced gingerbread houses to your irresistible biscuit bears, we’ve been so impressed by your commitment, and can’t believe how much you’ve managed to raise.

What’s been particularly delightful to see is how many of you have reached out to us on Twitter, sharing snaps of your bake sales, events and gingerbread assemblies. The Fairtrade Schools Twitter page is a great platform for sharing fundraising ideas and encouraging other schools in the Fairtrade community to get involved, and it’s thanks to your posts that this year’s Bake a Difference Campaign has really taken off!

We’ll be rounding up all of your activities in January, but exceptional examples so far include St Philip Evans Catholic Primary School in Cardiff, who have been busy researching recipes and creating promotional posters for their Christmas bake sale; Langwathby CE School in Cumbria, who have just hosted a Fairtrade gingerbread house contest; and Carlibar School Primary in Glasgow, whose gingerbread stall raised a ‘nut-cracking’ £40 for Fairtrade. Many thanks to Langwathby CE School for their fantastic photos!

Fear that you’ve missed your chance to get involved? Not to worry – the Bake a Difference campaign is launched in the run up to Christmas, but your Fairtrade baking ventures ‘knead’ not stop there! Gingerbread’s not just a festive treat; it makes a fantastic break time or after-school snack. Our donations page is open year round, and we’re always delighted to hear about your bake sales, coffee mornings and Fairtrade tuck shops via Twitter (@FairtradeUKEd) and email (schools@fairtrade.org.uk).

If gingerbread’s not your thing, why not checkout one of our other Fairtrade recipes or get creative and come up with your own? We’d love to hear about your creations. So whatever tickles your fancy – be it teatime banana loaf, post-football club chocolate cake or mid-morning mocha brownies – get stuck in and Bake a Difference for Fairtrade!

Did you Bake a Difference this year? Don’t forget to tell us how much you raised. You can choose to pay in now or pay in later.
